Why We Provide CEREC Same Day Crowns
The real question is, why doesn't everybody else? CEREC crowns provide the fastest most technologically advanced method of dental restoration today. Come visit Dr. Robert Wyler in Waukesha, WI, to find out more.
The Traditional Way
Traditionally, being fitted for a crown is a lengthy multi-step process.
Your dentist first prepares your tooth and makes an impression. This impression is then sent off to a lab that will manufacture your permanent crown. Something that takes a week at minimum, but often more.
While you wait, you are fitted with a temporary crown that will not have the same fit as your permanent one. There are reported cases of it coming loose and exposing you to sensitivity and pain.
Once it returns from the lab, you return to your dentist's office for a final fitting. When the permanent crown is finally bonded.
So what's the difference with CEREC same-day crowns? As the name suggests, that entire process can be shrunk to a single visit.
The CEREC Way
CEREC means Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic. Which hints at all the benefits of the system. It employs CAD/CAM technologies to accomplish its task. That is, Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing.
With CEREC the process begins in a similar way, except instead of an impression, in the old sense, your dentist creates a three-dimensional model of the tooth in question.
A milling machine in the office uses this digital impression to create your crown. Typically out of a type of ceramic, but consult with your dentist about what's specifically available. All this usually happens on the same day. Your new permanent crown will be polished and ready to be bonded before you leave the office.
These last about 15 years, but can endure much longer with proper care.
